Volunteering at Willetton Community Garden is an opportunity to connect with nature, meet like-minded people, and pick up practical skills like composting and growing herbs.
Whether you’re looking to unwind outdoors, learn about plants, or give back in a meaningful way, the garden has something for you.
Gain knowledge, build friendships, and enjoy the satisfaction of making a difference.

Monthly Busy Bee (Saturday)
The Busy Bee is a good time to come and see what we do and meet other people. If you like, you can join in activities around the garden.
Jobs may include weeding and tidying garden beds, planting, watering, cleaning up areas including the garden sheds, rotating compost. Or you may have a favourite activity that you like to do on Busy Bee day.
Bring a plate of food to share afterwards, it’s always a good time to meet and catch up.

Pruning and Weeding the Herb Garden
Come and learn about all those wonderful plants and herbs that you can grow!
We have lots of herbs in the herb garden, they grow in abundance – basil, parsley, rosemary, mint and more.
At times we have workshops held by expert gardeners.

Worm Farms
Keeping our worms happy means feeding them with food scraps and adding water.
Collecting worm leachate (worm tea) from the worm castings or vermicast (poo!) is done by flushing the worm farm slowly and gently with water.
Now there is great fertiliser for the garden beds!!
You’re welcome to come along to help and learn more caring for worms.

Composting
On Thursdays we collect fruit and vegetable scraps in our trailer, add shredded paper, mulch and used coffee grounds in our large compost bays for the magic of composting to happen.
After a few months we turn the compost, moving it to a new bay.
No experience needed, this is the perfect activity if you enjoy swinging a pitchfork or shovel.

Watering
There is always plenty of watering to be done especially in summer and with new plants.
Watering can be done by hand or with a wand connected to a hose.
Water the root of the plant rather than the foliage, just enough as giving too much water can attract fungus.
